Helping at Friday Night Competitions

All parents are expected to help with the running of our Friday night competitions. It is a compulsory for a parent or guardian to be present at the field throughout the competition – if a parent is not present the athlete will not be allowed to compete.

There are various ways that you can help on a Friday night:

  • If you’re able to arrive a little earlier, we need help setting up equipment at the start of the night and packing away equipment at the end of the night.
  • Age Marshals and assistants – a group of 2 to 3 parents is needed to go around with each age group to manage athletes, supervise the completion of each event and record results. If there are no experienced parents in the group – please ask one of the coaches for assistance with the running of events.
  • Time keepers – a group of 5-8 parents is needed on both tracks to assist with the timing of races.
  • Canteen helpers – a small number of parents is required each week. Please sign up for the canteen roster. Your $30 fundraising bond will be refunded at the end of the season provided you have completed at least 2 canteen rosters or raffle rosters (at the Arana Leagues club).

Your $50 Family bond will be refunded at the end of the season provided you have helped with the running of at least 10 Friday night competitions (and signed the appropriate books).

Help Coaching

We are always looking for enthusiastic new parents to become coaches. No athletic ability or previous experience is required. We will pay for you to attend a professionally organized Introduction to Coaching course. Please see our Coaching coordinator (currently vacant) for more details.

Help Officiating

As well as running our Friday night club competitions, our club is required to provide officials for regional and state competitions. We are always looking for enthusiastic new parents to become qualified officials. No athletic ability or previous experience is required. We will pay for you to attend a professionally organized Official’s course. Please see our Officials officer Wayne Kelly for more details.

Help Run the Club

We are always looking for new parents to join our committee. Elections for committee positions are held annually at our AGM in March, but parents are welcome to attend any of our committee meetings as an observer to learn how the committee operates. Our committee meetings are held at 7pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Arana Community Hall, Dawson Parade (opposite the Caltex Service Station).
