At Arana we pride ourselves on following our motto of “Fun, Family and Fitness”. We understand that our Athletes look up to their hero’s and strive to be the best that they can be. Our aim is to support each individual in achieving their competition goals, centred around the commitment to fair play.
To support this, we have created a code of conduct we expect our Committee, Athletes and families to follow.
Parents
Understanding fair play and good sportsmanship starts at the home.
- Remember children take up organised sports for their enjoyment not yours.
- Encourage your children to participate. If your child is not willing, do not force them.
- Get involved where you can to support the event and the Athletes.
- Effort is more important than outcome! Focus on personal bests rather than winning. Setting realistic goals reduces stress and increases the fun.
- Seek to learn the rules and encourage your children to follow them.
- Never ridicule or yell at your child for their performance.
- Set the example and applaud good effort and performances by all athletes.
- If you disagree with an official or a decision raise your concern respectfully or through the appropriate channels. Remember, most officials are volunteers and give their time and effort for your child’s involvement.
- Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
- Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and parents. These are typically unpaid roles and give their time to ensure your children get the most out of their experience.
Athletes
It isn’t whether you win or lose, but how you play the game!
- Make fun first! Train and compete for yourself and your enjoyment, not just to please your parents or coach.
- Always play by the rules. Listen and learn the rules to make sure you don’t make mistakes.
- Never argue with the officials’ decision. Talk to your Centre Manager or Coach and let them ask any necessary questions.
- Never lose your temper, no ‘mouthing off’, no swearing, no breaking or throwing equipment.
- Be a team player, work as hard in team events as you would in your individual events.
- Be a good sport. Cheer all good efforts and performances, whether they are from your centre or others.
- Treat others as you would like to be treated. Don’t interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of any other athlete.
- Don’t be a show-off or brag about your own performances.
- Co-operate with your Coach, Centre mates and opponents, for without them you don’t have a competition.
